The combination of the Mirage M-3Si, Carver Receiver 900, and dual Fosi Audio ZA3 mono blocks can actually be a very strong setup.
Here’s why this combo works well:
The Mirage M-3Si is a large bipolar speaker that likes high current and good control, especially in the bass.
The Carver Receiver 900 has a warm, dynamic vintage sound and around 90W/ch into 8Ω.
The ZA3 mono blocks provide much more clean power and damping than the Carver alone, especially if using the 48V supplies. Each ZA3 in mono can deliver roughly 235W into 4Ω.
So the ideal setup is:
Use the Carver Receiver 900 as the preamp/control center
Use the ZA3 mono blocks as the power amps,
Let the ZA3s drive the Mirage M-3Si speakers.
That gives you:
Vintage Carver musicality
Stronger bass grip
Better dynamics
More headroom
Cleaner sound at high volume,
The Mirage M-3Si can dip fairly low in impedance during demanding passages, and the ZA3 mono blocks are better suited for that than the Carver’s internal amp section alone.
