Description
Sheriff Phantom, coachbuilt one of one on a 2022 Indian Scout. 4,500 km.
There is one Phantom. It was drawn in Sydney, engineered and shaped by hand there by Sheriff Motorcycles, and finished in Dubai. Every panel on it was made for this machine and no other. It cannot be reordered and there will not be a second.
Underneath the coachwork sits a current 2022 Indian Scout. A 1,133cc liquid cooled V twin, six speed, aluminium frame. It services on the standard schedule through the Indian dealer network and the parts that keep it running are ordinary parts you can order on a Tuesday. That is the reason the Scout was chosen. Rarity on the outside, a machine you can live with underneath.
Coachbuilt has a plain meaning. A body built by hand for a single machine, on proven mechanicals. It is how the great cars were bodied for a century, and the Brough Superior was built the same way, one at a time, which is how it came to be called the Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles in 1923 with Rolls-Royce's written permission. The Phantom stands in that line, and it is named for the same reason those cars were.
The Scout platform carries its aluminium frame as part of the look, so there is very little for a builder to hide behind. Most work around it. This one was redrawn completely. Every line was worked until the bike read as a single shape, the silver arrow, with nothing added for attention.

Why it wears the name.
A Rolls-Royce earned the name Phantom for silence. In 1907 near silent running was the miracle,
and the car that had it moved like a ghost. A motorcycle cannot claim that, and it would be false
to pretend otherwise. This one earns the name a different way. Phantom also means an apparition,
a thing seen once and then gone. There is one Phantom, and you may see it once. That is the
ghost in the name.
There is a real thread from a Rolls-Royce to a motorcycle, and it runs through one machine. In 1923
a road tester for The Motor Cycle called the Brough Superior the Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles. Rolls-
Royce sent a man to George Brough’s works in Nottingham, saw how the bikes were made, and
gave him written permission to keep the phrase.
Every Brough was built by hand for one owner, tailored down to the handlebars. Each was
assembled once to fit, taken apart for plating and paint, then built a second time. The fast ones
were timed at Brooklands and handed over with a signed certificate. Here was a motorcycle held
to the standard of a coachbuilt car. T.E. Lawrence owned seven of them.
That is the line this motorcycle steps into. One body, shaped by hand for a single machine, built
the way the great coachbuilt cars were built and named for the same reason they were.
