Job Title: Stone Estimator
Job Overview:
The Stone Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements, determining costs, and preparing estimates for stonework projects in both residential and commercial settings. The estimator works closely with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure accuracy in material quantities, project timelines, and costs.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Assessment:
Review architectural plans, drawings, and specifications to understand the scope of the stonework.
Visit job sites to take accurate measurements and assess project conditions.
Cost Estimation:
Calculate the required quantities of stone materials based on project dimensions and specifications.
Estimate the cost of materials (e.g., granite, marble, quartz), fabrication, labor, transportation, and installation.
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and project bids.
Supplier Coordination:
Communicate with suppliers to obtain material prices, availability, and delivery timelines.
Compare vendor quotes and select cost-effective options.
Customer Interaction:
Collaborate with clients to understand their design preferences and material choices.
Present cost estimates, budgets, and timelines to clients and address any questions or concerns.
Documentation:
Prepare and maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and contracts.
Create and update spreadsheets or software-based tools for tracking estimates and project budgets.
Collaboration:
Work closely with project managers, contractors, and architects to ensure all estimates are accurate and align with project goals.
Provide guidance on alternative materials or methods to stay within budget without compromising quality.
Market Research:
Stay updated on current trends in stone materials, fabrication techniques, and installation best practices.
Monitor fluctuations in material costs and labor rates to adjust estimates accordingly.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in estimating within the construction or stone fabrication industry.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of stone materials (granite, marble, quartz, etc.) and experience in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic math, geometry, and measurement techniques.
Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, or dedicated estimating tools).
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in cost projections and material calculations.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, suppliers, and contractors.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and provide alternative solutions in case of project changes or challenges.
