Description

“Art does not reproduce what is visible; it makes things visible.”

Metamorphosis explores one of the most profound transformations of human life: knowing oneself.

Just as a caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis, changing from one state into another, we too continuously change through our experiences, choices, fears, dreams and relationships. But perhaps the greatest transformation is not becoming someone new. It is having the courage to look within and understand who we already are.

The woman in the artwork represents this inward journey. Her face emerges through layers, reflecting the process of peeling back what we have carried, believed and hidden over time. Layer by layer, we begin to recognise our strengths and weaknesses, passions and fears, desires and dreams, tolerance and limitations.

The transformation is not always easy or beautiful. It requires honesty, courage and a willingness to meet every part of ourselves without judgement.

Through acrylic, charcoal and layered paper, I have created a visual language of concealment and revelation. The textures and fragmented forms become the layers of identity, while the emerging face represents the growing awareness of the self beneath them.

Metamorphosis is ultimately an invitation to look inward, embrace the whole of who we are, and allow self-knowledge to become its own form of transformation.
