A General Accountant manages a company's day-to-day financial operations. They handle bookkeeping, reconcile bank statements, process accounts payable and receivable, and ensure financial records comply with regulations. Their work supports management by delivering accurate data for financial reporting and auditing.
Core Responsibilities
General Ledger Management: Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all daily journal entries are accurate.
Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process invoices, manage vendor payments, issue customer invoices, and track incoming payments.
Account Reconciliations: Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and balance sheet accounts monthly.
Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with local tax regulations (e.g., VAT filings in the UAE) and assist with internal or external audits.
Payroll & Expense: Oversee or support payroll processing and employee expense claim verification.
Inventory & Cost Tracking: Track inventory counts, monitor variances, and maintain fixed asset registries.
Key Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: Typically 4 to 5 years of proven accounting experience, with many roles requiring localized market knowledge.
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, SAP, Oracle).
Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent organizational skills.
